Welcome to Cirencester Dance Club, which was established in 1946, with the aim to offer local and affordable classes in Cirencester and the local area.  We encourage an interest in and enjoyment of dance and performance, for anyone within the local community, regardless of age or ability, all whilst having fun

Cirencester Dance Club strives to offer an exceptional standard of professional teaching by highly qualified teachers, in a fun and friendly environment.  We offer classes and examinations in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Theatre Skills and Performance Classes.  We also offer the opportunity to learn different skills in our supplementary Workshop Days throughout the year and our Summer Schools.

Our members gain self-respect, confidence and discipline and are encouraged to develop their musicality and stage awareness, whilst learning.

Children can start at Cirencester Dance Club as young as 2 years old in our Pre-School classes, Ballet Bees and Tiny Steps.  We have classes to cater for all ages from 2 years old to adults, and classes to suit all abilities, with an emphasis on non-judgemental participation and enjoyment.

Cirencester Dance Club members also have the opportunity to perform in classical ballets, variety shows, show cases as well as local events and festivals, and taking regulated exams.

The Club is managed by a voluntary Committee, elected by its parents and pupils. In 2007, in recognition of its contribution to the community, the Club was granted charitable status.

Our main studios at The Bingham Hall in Cirencester are fully equipped with a sprung floor, Ballet Barres and mirrors.

Our Mission

Cirencester Dance Club is fully devoted to providing dancers of all ages an encouraging environment where they are given the opportunity to grow and excel in their dance and performance education.  We strive to deliver the highest quality of dance training, while nurturing each student’s unique gift of talent and creativity.  We wish to encourage our students to achieve their fullest potential – to support them as they grow artistically and academically, and develop into well-rounded individuals – nourished in body, mind and spirit.

Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet follows the Russian style of ballet. The Russian method of Ballet education has been devised and refined over centuries. The goal of this system is to produce artistically expressive, technically able, powerful dancers through a well balanced and highly logical method. The strong technique of this system creates what is often termed "the Russian style", which is immediately recognisable. It is, however, more than a style, it is the solid foundation of pure classical ballet.

RAD Ballet

The Royal Academy of Dance method, is a ballet technique and training system, specially devised by the founders of the RAD, who merged their respective dance methods (Italian, French, Danish and Russian) to create a new style of ballet that is unique to the organisation. RAD pays attention to detail when learning the basic steps with difficulty increasing slightly between grades making difficult steps easier to learn. This style of ballet has become recognised internationally as the English style of ballet.

Tap is a fun rhythmic form of dance that helps coordination, stamina and timing. Students learn a mixture of set technical exercises and musical appreciation. Tap dancers, or Hoofers as tappers are called, use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. Today we mainly see this type of dance in musical theatre. A great discipline to learn and fun to perform.

Modern Theatre

Modern Theatre dance centres on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. It's a form of contemporary theatrical and concert dance employing a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas. This class explores lots of different dance styles from jazz to lyrical technique and improvisation.

Lyrical contemporary dance blends the beautiful extended lines of ballet with the release and fluidity of contemporary dance to create expressive, emotional choreography. Students will often perform to music with lyrics. The lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for the dancers' movements and expressions. Music used for these dances are typically emotionally charged and expressive.

Theatre Skills

This class is all about Theatre, from props to acting. These classes will include breathing and vocal technique, improvisation and working with scripts, movement and body language, character interpretation and ensemble performance. Students will learn about costume, set and prop design and how they contribute to performance and character development. From time to time, we hope to have guests with specialities in make-up, hair, puppet-making and maybe even ballroom and stage-fighting!.

This class is aimed at 12 years and above. It is designed for any student who wishes to expand on their dance knowledge and will be extra to their graded syllabus, within a relaxed atmosphere. The class will cover various styles of dances from a wide range of genres including musical theatre, jazz, lyrical, modern and tap.The dances are taught to everyone and may incorporate duets or solos as well as group work, depending on the students. This will help the students gain in confidence and promote team building. The students will then have the opportunity to use these dances in local fetes, festivals and community projects around the area, as well as Club shows.

Gymnastic Dance

This class is perfect for children who enjoy dance and/or gymnastics.

Tribal Bellydance

Tribal Bellydance is a fantastic way to embrace your femininity, inspiring you to find beauty and power within your body, whilst having fun. This class introduces the ancient roots of bellydance technique and how to combine it with elements of other dance forms.

In this class you will learn how to move fluidly and how to control your body parts while improvising flexibility, posture and toning the abdominals.

Dance Fitness

Dance Fitness is a type of group fitness class that incorporates some or many forms of dance. It's a full body aerobic workout, divided into different tracks that provide peaks and troughs of intensity. The overall intensity of a class varies depending on the style you're doing.
Dance Fitness classes offer a relaxed environment where you can really let your inhibitions go, get the results you want, learn some new moves and meet some great people along the way

Pre-School Classes

Tiny Steps is a creative movement class that introduces the idea of other dance forms, and broadening musicality. This class will help the physical, intellectual and social development of children from a very young age. In particular they can develop their motor skills, coordination, listening, concentration and social skills through well-structured classes. Children will learn to work in groups and develop their creative skills and many will go on to develop a love of dance and music.

Ballet Bees is our pre-school ballet class, for children aged 2-4 years. This class introduces ballet technique, rhythm and musicality in a fun and exciting way. It is a fun and relaxed lesson, using props like scarfs, hula hoops and ribbons and is a good foundation to start grade work at a later stage.
